Conversation with AI Researcher & Amazon's Namesake Principle
Conversation with AI Researcher, Professor and Author of The Master Algorithm
In the latest episode of my podcast Startup Project, I spoke to Pedro Domingos, Professor of Machine Learning at University of Washington. This time I channeled my inner Joe Rogan and released a 90 minute episode instead my usual 30-45 mins. Pedro was gracious with time and we were able to cover a lot interesting topics listed below.
Why Jensen Huang gave his book "The Master Algorithm" to all Nvidia employees
What advice he gave Jensen when Nvidia started investing in AI
His thoughts on information and media narratives
Safety concerns in AI and why it's a farce
Nobel Prize in Physics and Chemistry
Why Elon is wrong about AI safety
His latest sci-fi novel 2040 and what it predicts about our society

Strive to be Earth’s Best Employer
Strive to be Earth’s Best Employer - this is the one of the two principles Jeff Bezos added while leaving Amazon and making Andy Jassy the CEO of the company. This week AWS CEO made a comment that - 9 out of 10 people he talked to are excited about the 5 day work week. Amazon leadership is either delusional or just wants to make sure they increase churn at the company. I think its the later. I have always admired Amazon’s ability to extract maximum productivity from its young workforce by paying slightly more than Microsoft while paying way less than the Open AI’s of the world. A lot of high profile tech companies like - Snapchat, Stripe - didn’t achieve this kind of productivity extraction capability. This latest move is also another intelligent move by the leadership to churn out the existing older work force in favor of more younger college graduates. The formula sounds unfair, not according to any data or research but it works for their motive of getting maximum productivity.
And yes this principle should be removed from the list of principles. Its a cruel joke.
